Two 'Dogs grab runner-up finishes on Day 1 of Invite

FRESNO, Calif. –Amelia DiPaola and Rachela Pace opened the Fresno State Invitational for the Bulldogs on Friday with a pair of runner-up finishes at Warmerdam Field.

With the invite section of the long jump taking place during the evening, the 'Dogs went 2-4-5 on the women's side. Pace finished with a top jump of 6.04m/19-9.75.

Sophomore Janae Heffernan put together the best series of her career with three jumps over her previous long. Her top mark registered 5.94m/19-6. Madison Hutton was behind her at 5.86m/19-2.75.

Jabari King grabbed the Bulldogs' top result on the men's side, finishing fourth at 7.14m/23-5.25.

Earlier in the day, the Bulldogs went 2-5-6-7 in the women's hammer throw. Amelia DiPaola led the group with a new personal best of 62.89m/206-4 to move up to No. 5 all-time at Fresno State. Never having thrown over 62 meters, the senior eclipsed the mark on five of her six attempts.

Jocelynn Budwig took fifth with a mark of 57.07m/187-3. Cierra Jackson was sixth with a new PB of 56.83m/186-5 and Emma Harperwas seventh with a toss of 54.42m/178-6.

The meet will continue tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m. PT at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Fresno State will celebrate its senior class at noon.
